Hi, My PC's hard drive recently died, and I need to reinstall Windows 7. Luckily, I have a.iso file of Windows 7 saved on my Macbook Pro. I also have an empty USB external hard drive. I have been attempting to use the Mac (particularly the Disk Utility program) to partition this hard drive and load the.iso file into it, with the intention of booting up and installing Windows 7 on my PC. I have a new internal hard drive which I intend to install Windows on to, but that's something I should be able to deal with later and shouldn't be relevant right now.) As my DVD drive decided to also break (I hadn't used it in a LONG time), I can not burn the.iso to disc and boot that way. So, my question is, is it actually in any way possible to use my WD 500GB USB external hard drive to boot Windows 7 from? If so, is it possible to set the hard drive up with the.iso using a mac?
I believe that I somehow need to make my hard drive 'bootable' in order to boot from it, but I do not know how to do this using a mac, in such a way that it will be compatible for booting Windows. I have had this problem for days now, and nothing I try seems to work - I've tried what seems like every combination of formatting, partitioning, extracting, BIOS-set-up-ing and file-system-changing I can think of. Any help will really be appreciated. Also, if you need any information such as specs, just let me know and I'll try to provide all the details I can.
Also, I understand that there have been a lot of posts about booting from external hard drives, but I have looked thoroughly and have found nothing matching my situation (specifically using a mac). Thanks in advance for the help; hopefully there is something obvious I've missed that I can fix easily.
